Three Words to Describe Selena are: Passionate, Dynamic & Light-Hearted

She is a Dancer, Fitness Trainer and Lover and aspiring Media Personality. Meet Miss Black New York USA 2012, Selena Bailey Watkins, a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Rutgers University with a BFA in Dance and in Journalism/ Media Studies.

Born in Texas, and raised in Yonkers, New York, Selena has learned that humility, positivity and perseverance will take you on the highest road.

As a first generation Antiguan-American, Selena constantly saw the courage it took for her parents to immigrate to a new country, and the determination they had in order to provide for her and her siblings, with what little they could afford.

Growing up in a West Indian household meant discipline and strong educational values. Selena's parents made sure that her core values illuminated in her work ethic and all that she pursued.

As a Fitness Instructor, certified through AFAA and Les Mills, Selena teaches at various gyms and clubs throughout New York City. Selena also teaches hip-hop dance at the Newburgh Performing Arts Academy.

Her community service efforts include teaching caribbean dance to Gorton High School students, through the Gateway Outreach Program set in Yonkers Public Schools.

Selena is also a radio producer for 98.7KissFM. She started as an intern for Angie Martinez on Hot97, then worked as a board operator for Michael Baisden's syndicated daytime show. She now produces "Champagne & Bubbles w/ Andre Harrell."

With all that she does, Selena still makes time for her biggest passion, which is to perform and tour as a professional dancer. She continues to train with renowned choreographers and takes class in Manhattan, honing her skills in street jazz, hip-hop and commercial dance.

Selena's platform as Miss Black New York 2012 is Health and Wellness with a goal to partner with organizations that gear toward optimal health through fitness and physical activity for a better quality of life. Being healthy is about feeling good, mind body and spirit.
